Has your doctor tried an anti-depressant? I don't know if there would be problems with drug interactions (if you are currently on other medications), but many of the anti-depressants have sedative properties. You must be going through a very rough time: not only are you dealing with the aftermath of cancer treatment, but you're also depressed and not able to sleep. A therapist may be able to help you with many of your concerns. Just having an objective third party to listen may make all the difference in the world. You have to find a way to break the cycle you're going through. Most of us who live with insomnia have felt depressed, and each thing feeds off the other. I can't tell you what you should do, but for me, doing something I enjoy (like visiting the zoo) helps me to de-focus from my troubles. Think about what you enjoy, what makes you smile, and do a lot of it. Also, talking to supportive people, whether they have the same issues you do or not, helps divide the load and makes things bearable. You will find many sympathic ears on this forum. I know I have.
