When you deprive your body of sleep, weather you are too scared to fall asleep due to dreams or due to anxiety the body is then deprived of REM sleep which is the key to a good nights sleep. You find that when you sleep well and comfortably for long periods of time then REM becomes something you are unaware of.I think that once you are deprived of REM then when you do eventually fall asleep you head into REM far quicker, almost instantly...often uncomfortable REM. I am a great sleeper and I am so thankful that I can sleep anywhere, anytime. I dream often and seldom have nightmares. My husband however is the first person who I have known who fights sleep to the death. I watch him sometimes nod off for seconds or minutes at a time only to try and snap out and ignore the signs his body is telling him. It scares me so much as he smokes cigerettes in this state...he nods off while I talk to him and this makes a lot of our time together one sided. I don't remember the last time he was awake and energetic all day.
I need to hear from as many people as possible..I feel that I need to talk to someone about it as he won't. I love looking into his eyes but they are usually battling to stay open. I want my energetic husband back...I understand that he has to make the first step in helping himself.
