Kerri,

What is double depression? I,ve never heard that term before. The first thing you need to ask yourself is are you really depressed. I know that suffering from PTSD and insomnia is a depressing way to have to live combined with the anxiety of fearing not sleeping. How do you feel on a day when you are well rested? Do you feel like your old self. Only you can make that determination, not a doctor.

Don't let anyone decide that for you. Doctors often misdiagnose people suffering with insomnia and anxiety as being depressed. This is called labeling. People are often put on medication and sent on their way. It doesn't appear that the Prozac is working. Prozac has a lot of nasty side effects, one of the most common being insomnia. Maybe you should ask your doctor to put you on an anti-depressant that is more sedating, like Elavil or Doxipen. If he's not open enough to making changes, maybe you should find another doctor.

I know of a axiety program that is very benificial in treating all kinds of anxiety disorders including PTSD and fear of not sleeping. I suffered from a horrible fear of not sleeping and this program was like a God-send. It is a well known program called, "Attacking Anxiety". I would also recommend reading John Weidmans new book, "Desperately seeking snoozin". It is by far the best book I've ever read on treating insomnia. Both of these items are powerful tools in helping you eliminate or greatly aliviate both anxiety and insomnia. Both items are very powerful and motivating, giving you the self-confidence needed to over come these conditons. That's saying the least about these products.

I have one more thing to say regarding the use of sleep medications. Doctors often make the mistake of prescribing too much or no medication in the treatment of insomnia. I don't agree with anyone of these methods. I take sleep medication, but only about 3 times a month. When your suffering from insomnia, it's nice to know that there is something you can take if you go through an awful cycle. It helps relieve
the fears of not sleeping. That in itself relieves anxiety. I've had many docters in my earlier years flat out refuse to give me medication which caused my insomnia to spiral out of control, making it that much worse. The fear was horrible and inhumane.

You can e-mail me on regarding either one of these items. I would be more than happy to assist you and anyone else out there that has anxiety about not sleeping.

Meg
