As I have mentioned, or alluded to in previous posts. Very often insomnia is a symptom of another disorder. Sometimes the actual disorder and the symptom are so close to one another that it is hard to determine which is which (chicken or the egg). You MAY be suffering from a phobia which is causing the insomnia. Treatment of phobias is much different than treatment of clinical insomnia. Treatment of phobias involves behavior modification and the mapping of phobia triggers. Psychological consultation would be a good start if you believe in the aforementioned plausibility.

As with Meg, I am not an advocate of medication overkill. This comes from two years of research and development for a major pharmaceutical firm. Pharmaceuticals themselves are wonderful. Unfortunately, they are only as effective as the physician prescribing them.. It is your job to find a clinician that you feel is educated in your field of disorder. Medications work very well, but only in combination with therapy and/or behavior modification. I am not saying that everyone with insomnia has a underlining disorder which is causing it, just that there are many factors to consider.
