Susie,
Thanks for the information. I'm not afraid that I have the disease. I was just very interested in the case that was aired on the "Sleep Files". I thought it very interesting and tragic to watch this man suffer and die such a horrible death, while doctors stood by helplessly, and did nothing. Personally, I feel Dr. Kovorkian should have been called in. I also find it interesting, that I've been told over and over again by so- called "Sleep Experts", that no one ever died from insomnia. I guess this disease, put an end to that old cliche'.
The Documentary stated that 1 in every hundred-million dies of this disease each year. I think that's between 75 to a hundred people every year. I have a feeling it's much higher, due to misdiagnoses. This man was intially diagnosed with MS, then major depression (insomnia, being of couse just a symtom, as usual). When he began hallusinating and acting dillusional, then he was put in a mental hospital for insanity. There he could have stayed until he died, like alot of people probably did, until it was discovered 11 years ago. But luckely, someone took his total sleeplessness seriously. That may not always be the case, even today.
Meg
