Posted by Hardy on October 17, 2001 at 18:45:35:I went to my doctor today asking for medication to help me sleep. My Dr. prescribed me Elavil 25mg to take every night an hour before bed. I asked about other medication such as ativan or halcion - because I read that it reduces anxiety and can help you sleep, but my Dr. said he didn't like prescribing these meds because they can be addictive. My concern about taking Elavil is that you have to take it every night, and I would rather have something I can take only PRN as needed. I have already tried both Sonata and Ambien, but they didn't help. Can anyone tell me any experiences they have had with Elavil and if it helps or not. Again, my main concern is that I don't want to take something every night when I don't always have problems sleeping.
