I have the same problem. Drugs don't work well. I'm currently trying to find relaxation techniques that work for me. The deep breathing discussed in Wiedman's book seems to work. However, I think the key is in the practicing of a relaxation technique and getting to a point where you trust it to work. Even Wiedman says in his book that if you would have told him ten years ago that deep breathing would have been the "switch" to sleep he was searching for, he would have told you that you're crazy. Anyway, practice practice practice. Also, I'm going to get a psychologist that specializes in behavior modification. That may help you learn these techniques better.

Good luck and sweet dreams.
