I was just wondering ... I am using the methods outlined in Weidman's book to overcome my conditioned insomnia of 10 months. I am currently restricting my time in bed to 6 hours. For the past month, I have been weaning myself off of nightly Remeron and Ambien. I am now down to 3.75 mg of Remeron (from 22.5 mg) and will finish the taper this week. I also go most nights without Ambien (but have occasionally taken 5 mg to get back to sleep in the wee hours). If I stick with my pre-sleep routine (doze off watching t.v. on the couch about an hour before bedtime), I seem to fall asleep pretty quickly once in my bed. My problem is that the longest I seem to be able to sleep is about 5 hours, then I wake up and can't get back to sleep (probably because I know it's almost time to get up). My question is, after you were off the meds how long was it before you started sleeping longer? I set 6 hours as my designated amount of time in bed because that's the minimum I feel I need to be able to function at work, but I'm currently not getting that 6 hours (not to mention the fact that I'd eventually like to get back to sleeping 7-8 hours like I was before). Is there anything else I can do to help myself sleep longer, or is it just a matter of time and patience? Thanks for your help!!P.S. I think I told you this before, but you have really inspired me to get off the meds and try the behavior modification instead! Thanks again!!
