Hi Karen,
Let's see, I stopped taking Trazadone in January and things were pretty up and down for several months. I just looked in my old sleep log, which I don't use anymore, and it looks like even in April I was averaging 4 - 6 hours per night, with an ocassional 7 here and there. It was June before I started sleeping consistently for about 7 hours per night, with an occasional "bad" night of 4 - 5 hours. I'm almost afraid to say this, but I haven't pulled an all-nighter since May (although I have resorted to 1/2 a klonopin a few times).

I think the longer you go without the meds, the more your body seems to get back to its old ways, and your confidence level also improves. Also, if you can help from freaking out when you have a bad night, (hard I know) you gradually discover that you can function fine after just one or two bad nights and your body will fall asleep much easier on subsequent nights. In other words, the bad cycles will hopefully get shorter and less frequent.

So try to have patience, keep up with good sleep hygiene, and use a journal to track your progress and encourage you when things are rough. I got in the habit of at the end of each month, just writing the dates for each week all on one page and listing the hours slept and any medication taken so I could see the whole month at a glance without reading through all my anquished entries. That helped put things in perspective.

I'm glad you're doing better; it's quite a process, and I still wonder how long I will be fighting this battle. Sometimes I still get discouraged and have to remind myself that we all have our crosses to bear and at least this one can be managed. Take care.
