I have had horrific insomnia for 8 years but sleeping problems always. I was on large does of Elavil for (250 mg.) for a couple of years and it did help but then it stopped. I tried numerous other drugs but no success. An occasional Dalmane would work then. 2 years ago I went to another doctor were he put me on 2 mg Klonopin and large doses of Neurontin. It also worked for a few months until I started losing my memory, losing my temper, and generally it stopped making me sleep anyway. It was so unbearably painful withdrawing from these. It has been over a year since being off all meds and my insomnia is horrible. Worse than ever. I get up each day waiting for it to be over only to be followed by one just as bad. I find no joy in life and am at the end of my rope. I have been to two sleep clinics in the past, acupuncture, read all the sleep books recommended. Before I came off the medication sleep restriction helped but not now. I don't know what to do. How can anyone lead a life feeling so weak and disconnected from the world? Can anyone offer any helpful advice. I know the many doctors I've been too haven't been able to. Thanks/
