Hi Marie,
I took .5 mg klonopin every night for 5 months. Then I started taking 50 mg Trazodone along with the klonopin cuz the klonopin was no longer working at that dose and I didn't want to increase it. I gradually weaned off the klonopin and kept on with the Trazodone for about a year. Then I spent an additional few months weaning off the trazodone. The 50 mg dose no longer worked and I didn't like the way I felt at higher doses the next day.

In addition, I tried Effexor (for just a few days) and St. John's wort for several months. I was also offered prescriptions for Wellbutron, Paxil and Celexa by various doctors, but I didn't take them after the bad side effects I got from Effexor, and also my belief that I didn't really need them to get better.

I feel I have snapped back although it was very slow, gradual, frustrating and scary, not to mention confusing. I still battle my fear every night, but it is not as intense and I have been sleeping really well for about 5 months. I know it may come back, but I have a bit more confidence that it will never be as bad as before. I think I've learned alot, and also, in my case, I think all the meds made it worse and slowed my recovery. I keep posting because I remember how desparate I was for help and hope, and how it just didn't seem to be forthcoming from the medical community. This forum and Wiedman's helped me so much and I want others to know that they should not lose hope.
