What a great post!

There was a HUGE tendency for me to avoid activities, social and otherwise, when I was not sleeping well, and therefore I ended up giving myself more time to brood over the problem.

It is possible to still enjoy activities though sleep-deprived. The key is to keep yourself from thinking that you would enjoy them more if you weren't sleep deprived. Just have fun and immerse yourself in something interesting.

I think the reason the sleep restriction methods were initially unsuccessful (I say initially because I didn't try them for very long) was that I focussed too much on following rules and became ever more anxious and obsessive. This was dumb.

However, I also think I needed SOME sleep before I could get to point of believing these things (that I could still enjoy myself) -- so I went the med route and I'm now working my way out of this.

Thanks Cassidy. What happened to your 'quest for sleep, 2001' series?

A.N.
