A Possible Nutritional Solution

Posted by Deb on November 07, 2001 at 13:05:25:

This is the first time I have posted here. I have had insomnia on and off since 1997, with it getting much worse this summer after being diagnosed with GAD. I don't like to take any meds, however I have resorted to Ambien and Sonata when I need them. I think that I may have stumbled onto a possible program that might be working for me and wanted to pass it on. I was reading a book called "Depression Free Naturally" and I am not sure of the authors name except she is a Ph.D and her first name is Joan. She runs a Health Recovery Center in Minnesota that treats not only addictions but anxiety, depression, etc. with natural treatments quite successfully. She described profiles of biochemical imbalances for anxiety and i think I may have figured out my problem. Some people have a problem called pyroluria. It is a genetic problem they think, and the body excretes Vit B6 and zinc accidentally because it binds with something else making it unavailable. Not having these nutrients causes bad psychological symptoms. She has a checklist of symptoms for this condition and recommends supplementing B6, zinc, magnesium, manganese, and Vit C and panothenic acid to rebuild your adrenals. I have been doing this for only about a week now and am noticing some improvement. She recommends trying to find a doctor to get specific lab tests, but since I doubt my doctor will do this there is no harm in trying the supplements within the recommended dosage. Of course we never hear about therapy using nutrients, since no one can profit from them like from prescribing meds. I just wanted to pass this on in case it is any help to anyone. I will report back more in about a month if it has really helped.
