Great, thanks Ellie, at least we understand each other. I live in Europe and I too have looked for help all over the place and not found it. I too have seen many doctors and have only been met with total incomprehension and/or indifference/disinterest. Some don't even believe the extent of my problem and subscribe to the theory that if you don't fall asleep during the day you must be sleeping at night! Yeah, sure.
My nervous system is so wired up during these periods that when I can't sleep I can't sleep - for days and nights on end, and when I do it's only for a miserly few hours (2-4).

But what can you do? The medical profession simply doesn't understand the problem, therefore there is no compassion or understanding. All they talk about nowadays are the vague terms of 'depression' and 'anxiety'. There is certainly no support group where I live, that's for sure. And if you go to a 'sleep centre' they are only interested in things that are easy to diagnose with their machines, such as sleep apnea. If you have insomnia they practically kick you out of the place (talking from personal experience here)

Anyway, Ellie, I wish you all the best and I hope that the Big Apple has better doctors than Europe does.
