Hi marina,

I was on klonopin for about 7 months, but about 4 of those months were the taper. From .25 mg I reduced to approx. .2, then .15, then .125, then about .1 before stopping entirely. Every time I made a cut I used melatonin (1.5 - 3 mg). During the taper, I NEVER had a bad night's sleep, and only had tiny twinges of other withdrawal symptoms, like anxiety, but it was easy to recognize this as a funny physical symptom and not let it scare me.

I've been sleeping like a log without klonopin now for over a month and I just had two nights in a row without melatonin.

The security blanket aspect is certainly possible, especially if you notice that you fall asleep so quickly that it couldn't be the crumb of klonopin at work. I knew this was the case with me, but continued the taper so as to avoid withdrawal symptoms. It could be that the reason melatonin worked was that it was providing the alternative security blanket!

Sounds like your taper is going fine. Keep us posted.

A.N.
