After a couple of years on various meds(not night after night) my new Doc started me on 5mg of Paxil 10 days ago. I also take 1 mg or less of Ativan at bedtime. I have never had an SSRI before and assume its usage is for suspected biochemical imbalance since it is supposed to reuptake serotonin...is that correct? You seem to have had a successful treatment with it and I wonder were you started at a higher dose....do you have to taper it like benzos? Do you recommend the Ativan for sleep along with it because I think the SSRI's don't have a sedative effect..is that right? I'm so fed up Abby but I think my general attitudinal resistance to meds has retarded my progress. Any advice, info, encouragement or whatever you can give would be much appreciated...Thank you Abby!!! P.S. I haven't seen many posts extolling Paxil and I'm trying to keep my concern under control. I know 5 mg is a low dose but I think less is best to start...do you know how long a treatment course and at what dose is considered average? Yhanks again....Ginny
