Excellent posts, Cassidy and Hope - I can only agree with what you both said. I too have been through all your experiences and found it to be true that it is essential to distract yourself somehow from the lack of sleep. I know, Ellie, it is not easy when you are so exhausted, but it is the only way. As Cassidy said you have to try to rid yourself of the obsession. I'm in a bit of a bad patch myself too at the moment, but I'm determined to resume my written positive affirmations, my self-hypnosis and my sleep restriction (all of which I had let slip recently, due to my success in sleeping) and I have confidence that sleep will return, as long as I don't worry about it.
I really feel for you Ellie, but do take Hope's excellent advice. Over the Christmas holiday I did a couple of jigsaw puzzles and found them to be very helpful and relaxing. I managed to concentrate on them completely, so I wasn't thinking of anything else (e.g. sleep). Maybe that would be worth a try, as it's not too tiring and it occupies your brain.
Hope is also right about Buddhism (esp. meditation) - it really helps you to find peace. Try reading a few books on it - there are plenty around and I have found them interesting and useful. You don't have to become a religious fanatic or anything to follow their guidelines for living. It is all very simple.
'Bon courage' Ellie, as they say in France. You can do it, you are strong and you will survive. Remember that. You might suffer along the way, but unfortunately that is a normal part of life and we must learn to accept it. Gradually you will get better, you just need to convince yourself of this and distract your mind from 'the issue'. Take care,
L.
