Hi,
I'm using 15 mg. Started with 20 and it was definitely too much. I felt strange. Dropped down to 10 mg and I sort of crashed, so returned to 15 and have been there for about 6 months.
Paxil is used for many, many things. Most common uses are for panic attacks, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and depression. Since insomnia feeds off of minor bits of each of these (especially the anxiety and obsessive thinking), low-ish doses are now being used to treat it.
I know that sleepychick is on Paxil and there are a few other occasional post-ers who take it.
5 mgs is a pretty dinky dose. Since the last thing you probably need is another thing to worry about..... don't worry about it. Yes, there is a class-action lawsuit in progress regarding withdrawal symptoms, but I am heartened that, despite the HUGE number of people taking Paxil, the lawyers have only found a couple dozen plaintiffs.
After a bit you may want to try tapering the Ativan. You will know when you are ready.
