Remeron: Anyone succesfully discontinue it?

Posted by Julie on January 15, 2002 at 15:24:24:

Hi Everyone,

I have been reading your recent posts about Remeron, especially Karen's. I am trying to get off Remeron myself. It is only a first step as I am also on 600mg of Serzone (that's another story!) and know I am in for a long haul getting off that. I am not depressed (except about my bad sleep), so I'm not sure why I was given these high doses of antidepressants in the first place.

I took 30mg Remeron for 4 months. Over the last month I cut back to 22 1/2mg for a week, then 15mg for a week, 7 1/2mg for a week, and have now been off it for 2 days. I was doing okay until 3 days ago. I didn't sleep at all for 2 nights, had a depressive mood swing one day, and wouldn't have slept last night if I hadn't given in to the old benzos and took a big dose of Librium.

How long will the side affects of going of the Remeron last? Do you think they're just psychological, or real? I really want to avoid going back on the Remeron - it took me a month to get to this point, and as I said above, I still have a long road ahead of me with Serzone.

Sorry this is long, but I'd appreciate any advice I could get.
