As I think you've gleaned from my other posts, I did have a problem trying to stop Remeron. The tapering wasn't a problem, just when I tried to stop altogether. As a result, I am back on it at 15 mgs. I am once again sleeping well without Ambien, but the weight gain continues to be a problem. So, I will probably try to taper again starting this weekend. I talked to my doctor about the symptoms I experienced when stopping, and of course she assured me that any "rebound" as they call it would only last a few days. However, I was off it completely for a week the last time, and the sleeplessness and anxiety were still very bad. I do think some of it is physical, and some of it may be psychological. But I feel like if all I do is go back to using Ambien every night just so I can be off Remeron, then what have I accomplished? Which is why I restarted the Remeron. This time when I taper, I may have to go even more slowly, making dose cuts every 2 or 3 weeks instead of every week. When I get to the smallest dose, I may try taking it every other day, then every third day, etc. I don't think it really matters how long it takes, as long as you get there. I recall reading posts from others who tapered their meds over several months, and I know many people on Paxil have to taper even more slowly than that. So what? The key is to go at your own pace and not to push yourself back into that vicious cycle of insomnia. Remember, everyone is different, and one tapering schedule doesn't work for all people. Just go slow, and take one day (and one med) at a time. You'll know when you're ready. Good luck!
