Posted by Steve on February 21, 2002 at 15:28:39:I've got kind of a weird question here. About two weeks ago, I finally bit the bullet (after a year of insomnia) and let my doctor prescribe me meds. He put me on 50 mg trazodone. I try not to take it every night. The first three or four times I took it, it worked like a champ and put me right out. Moreover, it drastically cut down on the amount of times I was waking up, and allowing me to go right back to sleep when I did. The last two or three times I've taken it, however, I've noticed a difference. I still fall asleep pretty quickly, but the sleep seems to be much lighter than it originally was, with more waking up (though not quite as much as without the medication) and more tossing and turning. Additionally, I don't feel as refreshed the next day. I've had this effect before with things like Tylenol PM and such where it just quits working after a week or so. Anyone know if it's possible just to be highly resistant to most or all forms of medication? For prescription meds, I've also tried Ambien and Restoril. I had mixed results with the Ambien and the Restoril did exactly zip. I'm afraid I'm going down that road with the trazodone as well. My doctor told me I could take up to 150 mg a night, but I really don't want to go there. Anyone have any info on this?
