Add a new member to your group. After two years plus of raging insomnia , I finally started to implement the suggestions in the books and am also inspired by Lynne, Beth, Hope and others on this wonderful forum. Keeping a sleep diary isn't as bad as I thought it would be....I also lessen the pressure of the DST and DWT ( sleep and wake times) by allowing a half hour range. In other words, bedtime might be midnight to 12:30 and wake up 7:30 to 8:00...I set the alarm a half hour after that (8:30 am) and am absolutely up and going by them. I don't work and am a night owl by nature, so if I'm in bed by 1 am at the LATEST...I'm doing well. I think getting UP at the SAME time every day is VERY important because it determines your whole day...regular meal times, etc.I've only been at this a week but already feel more positive about things. I am also weaning off meds....veryyyy low doses now and am following a healthy eating plan...my sleep journal and my food journal are near me at most times and I feel the return to structure in my life. Good Luck to you both...in fact to everyone on this great forum. Sincerely, Joanna
P.S. I am also using a few sleep assistance tapes at bedtime and occasionally play soft relaxing cd's...low volume. I'm a very auditory person(love music) and I find these approaches help. One or two of the tapes are subliminal(affirmations are printed on cassette) as I feel after awhile the insomnia becomes chronic and learned and has to be unlearned. Always consciously affirming, etc. is exhausting so I regard these tapes as a modern day tool or supplement....much like vitamins to the diet!!! Just sharing some alternatives! J.
