Veronica, I had the exact same thing 6 months ago. I fell asleep fine, but would wake up in the middle of the night with anxiety attacks, and then would not be able to get back to sleep. For me, it was a direct result of having severe stress in my life for during the prior 4 months. I felt like I was on constant alert for danger. Unfortunately for me, this all led to plain old insomnia after a while, even when the panic faded. I remember during that time, that I was so wired all day and night - I never felt sleepy at all. I seemed to have adrenaline going through me 24 hours a day. The only good thing about that was that it kept me awake during the day. Now, if I have a rough night, I will fall asleep the minute I sit down to read or watch TV or ride in a car. Luckily, I am sleeping a little better lately, so everything is working itself out. I would suggest finding a therapist to figure out what is causing this, and working on some relaxation techniques. Good luck.
Liz
