Hi Sam-

I know what you're going through...I tried everything, too. I'm just 25, but my insomnia started when I was 22. I have been to the sleep specialists, have done hypnotherapy, blood tests, sleep studies, medications, etc. all to no avail. At my worst, I would go for weeks with no real restful sleep...just an hour or so (maybe less) at the end of the night that was fitful and filled with nightmares and wake-ups. It was completely destroying my life! The insomnia was so relentless and it felt like there was nothing that would put me to sleep short of a sledgehammer to my forehead.

Well, this is changing now since I started practicing sleep restriction in the past two months. I spent nearly four years in insomnia h*ll and now I am sleeping again...have you tried sleep restriction? Many of us on this forum have had good experiences with it like Lynne, Beth, myself and others.

Please read a post I wrote earlier entitled, "Recognize yourself in my story?" It's just down the page a little ways and it chronicles my battles with chronic insomnia, what cuased the problem, and how I have been able to get sleep again using sleep restriction.

I'm only two months into the program and there have been setbacks, but I am able to sleep without having to resort to doctors, medications, herbs, pills, or anything else. This, after four years of almost no sleep at all! I thought I was the world's worst insomniac, that my problem was completely hopeless and that nothing would be able to help me. I had lost all reason for living and was getting very depressed...now I am returning to the world of the living once again!

Anyway, I would also encourage you to read Lynne's posts, since she was able to tame a 15-year chronic insomnia using sleep restriction as well as a nasty addiction to Trazadone.

If your insomnia was caused by similar reasons as mine was, then you could be helped a lot by trying sleep restriction!

I hope this helps!

Paul
