Posted by Bobby on June 21, 2002 at 16:49:53:I have had an Adverse drug reaction to cipro. I have chronic prostatitis, and was given a 6 week run of cipro concurently with vioxx. At the end of the cipro - my ears started ringing - and I began to get panic attacks/anxiety.
When it first hit - I was in the ER. Just a "free tip" here - if you are ever prescribed anti-biotics - ask if they are in the quenolone group. If they are - refuse the antibiotic and ask for one in another group.
Anyway, I had my Adverse drug reaction a month ago. I am told it could take months to start subsiding. A particularly horrible side affect is INSOMNIA. I've gone days with little to no sleep. One night I was up all night - and the next day had anxiety/panic problems so bad I could not get out of bed.
I have tried Ativan - and I do sleep with it. I also have Xanax which helps me sleep as well. The problem is - I feel "benzo" withdrawel if I stay on these things too many days in a row.
I asked for ambien and am trying that tonight. I plan on using a benzo/ambien "pair" so I won't get addicted to either.
Has anyone else tried this? The LAST thing I want now is to become addicted to drugs. I must sleep, however, because the anxiety/panic attacks are maddening. I am told sleep is a must to begin recover from the cipro.
Again, I'm curious if anyone has ever rotated drugs to avoid addiction.
The natural things don't work (valerian root, melatonin). I've heard of Kava - but my liver is already shot from cipro - so I don't want to damage it anymore...
Thanks for any insight or experience .....
Bob
