Here is a perfect example of how important it is to stick with the sleep restriction program even when you think you're getting better...
I was doing very well a few weeks ago (no problems falling asleep and I was feeling rested during the day.) Then, I went on vacation and didn't have an alarm clock. I ended up sleeping in and going back to old habits again for nearly two weeks...and low and behold, the insomnia came right back.
Now that I'm back, I feel like I practically have to start over again. It's been hard to get up in the morning because I'm having so much trouble sleeping again that I've lost the confidence I had about bedtime. Ugh...
So, There it is. Don't let yourself slip like I did! Now I have to do some serious work to get my sleep patterns back in line; something I was hoping never to have to do again.
For me, it only took a few days of the old bad habits to get me in trouble again.
I'm leaving for Europe on Sunday and I've been contemplating refilling the Ambien prescription to deal with the jetlag...I think that I'm just going to grin and bear it, though, so that I don't completely regress back to pre-sleep restriction insomnia again.
Any thoughts?
Paul
