I know what you all mean about it being a little sad and having to 'restrict' your social life too, as that is what I have had to do - and still do.
However, as to Abby's question: is it worth it? My answer is a resounding YES. I think only if you have had the worst imaginable insomnia for a long, long time can you genuinely appreciate the pleasure of actually being able to sleep. I would much rather give up my (occasional) late nights than have that chronic insomnia back again. If friends don't understand and think you're boring, too bad! My health and sanity come first now.
Paul, I feel for you having to travel to Europe and being a little worried, as I too have the same problem. Wherever I go in the world, even if there shouldn't (in theory) be much jet lag involved, I always get my old insomnia back. I think it's a question of change in my case. It seems to me that I have to stick to my rigid routine, and same environment and bed every evening, otherwise something inside me gets disturbed. Maybe it's a deep-rooted insecurity or something. I'm working on that. I think I just have to keep on plugging away with those positive, fear-free, confident thoughts when I'm travelling -and Í would suggest you do the same.
Good luck!
L.
