That is why I have always been afraid of ambien. I only took it twice, and I took it right before bed so I fell asleep in bed and stayed there, but it really frightened me the way it knocked me out so suddenly and solidly--for 7 straight hours. I got very anxious the second night just waiting for it to hit me. My doc couldn't understand this and seemed to think I feared falling asleep and that was really my problem. Not at all, I just don't like being sedated to the point that I couldn't wake up if one of my kids needed me or whatever... maybe it is the loss of control, but it did not feel natural.
After that, I read a lot of stories on here and met a few people who said they slept walked and talked while on ambien. I reported this to my doc and he said he had never heard of that, and that maybe that was a good sign, because at least they were asleep!! He was a sleep specialist, and that is when I lost my faith in doctors and decided I had better take my problem into my own hands.
I have since calmed down about doctors, but I do believe we all need to learn as much as we can about our health--especially the prescriptions the medical community hands out like candy.
