I have taken Ambien on nights when it didn't work (meaning obviously I didn't fall asleep)and I did not have any side effects at all. After reading posts on here and talking to a friend, I was scared half to death that I would be hallucinating or doing strange things without knowing it, but I was actually very aware (and had someone in the bed with me to verify every time) of what was going on and didn't feel any different at all.

I've also had nights where it has knocked me out within 20 minutes or so. I too, get very nervous waiting for the Ambien to take effect...I think it's strange to lie there and wait for something to basically knock you out. But I guess we do that every night with sleep anyway because sleep just overtakes us without us knowing it.

Anyway, I wonder why I did not suffer the memory loss as some of you did?? Also, can anyone else recommend a better sleep aid? Does Sonata knock you out in much the same manner??
