Trouble with sleeping pills...

Posted by niki on August 12, 2002 at 07:19:14:

Hi
am new here although have been sleep deprived for 5 yrs....
recently my ob/gyn took pity on me and as was finally not preganat/breast feeding or both he prescibed sleeping pills, none woked ending up with Ambien which he said would be the best, I ended up with awful depression and the day I started looking for online sites of ways to commit suicide stopped taking them as realised they were not doing me any good sleep wise or mentally.
I also suffer with bad migraines and when I have a really bad night will often have a 2 day migraine due to lack of sleep.
My new dr has prescibed me with alprazolam .25mg generic for xanax
which was reading about here and a bit scared, is that a high dose? It isn't doing such good now as when I started, I fall asleep fine at 9.30 pm then wake at 1.30am without any sleep aid or make it to 3.30am with sleep aid.
Then I occaisionally get back to sleep 'til 5am but usually read for the reat of the time and get up at 6am tired grumpy and a bit befuddled from the xanax.
I have 2 small sons so need to be on my toes all day long.
I have alot of financial stress which I tend to fixate on in the small hours, the xanax helps me to not be so fixated
but still is not the answer to my desparately needed 8 hours!
My sister thinks it is periomenopuse? I am 41?
Any ideas? How do I stop xanax after about 2 weeks?
Thankyou thankyou thankyou
Niki
