Helen, I'm so sorry to hear of your husband's death. I believe you are the same Helen I corresponded with last year.

I hope this phase of your insomnia will be a short one. It sounds silly, but I was wondering if you have a dog or might consider getting one? They are great companions, especially when you are awake alone in the middle of the night. And getting out to walk them is always good for the spirit.

As far as driving, I know that is a big fear for you. I did continue to drive for the most part when I was sleep deprived, but I'm sure it depends just how sleep deprived a person is. I never felt sleepy behind the wheel, but I suppose my relflexes may have been slower. I also never drove much on expressways when sleep deprived, since driving on expressways is scary for me even under ordinary circumstances. I felt I had to concentrate extra hard when driving, but still felt I was in better shape than all the people around me who had cell phones up to their ears!

Please keep us posted on how you are doing and know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Beth
