Hey Neil sorry to interrupt, I do believe in eating right. However, I am no longer an advocate of vitamin pills.
I use to take a lot of vitamin pills. To be frank I don't feel any different between taking or not taking them. I have read a lot of books and articles regarding vitamin pills. Research was done on taking pure synthetic vitamin pills. They found that for regular taker of the pills at higher amount would actually create dependence of our body for that particular chemical form of vitamin taken regularly. Since it is "chemically pure", it doesn't contain the wholesome goodness of a particular food that our body needs. Infact, some vitamin like vitamin C even though it is harmless at a much higher amount, it would have an reverse effect. Rather than boosting our immune system it might just do other wise. However, if we were to take fresh wholesome food this kind of problem would be avoided. Furthermore, many of the vitamin pills available on shelf today are actually made from petrochemicals. And the materials used for the binder and filler of the pills itself in long run could be of health hazard too.
Lately, I came across this program on discovery channel. Its about the effect of calorie restriction (CR) on our health and life span. The research center run test on the mouse. The group of mouse that was under going CR live twice as long as the normal diet group.
The center is also running a test on monkeys. The monkeys were break into 3 groups. Group 1 with normal diet act as a control. Group 2 is given normal diet plus health supplement like vitamin pills. Group 3 with just CR diet namely vegetables, whole grains, beans and fruits.
After 20 years, the center run an analysis on the 20 year old monkeys, right down to the cellular level.
Group 1 obviously aged cells were observed with the damage from things like free radicals. Group 2 despite of the vitamin pills with antioxidant given, there is not much difference compare with the first group. Group 3 the CR group the cell observed is as healthy and is as good as a four year old monkey.
So I guess going back to basic is still the best.
I would like to give you my life testimony but it will be too long.
However, one thing I can say so far eating right hasn't cured my insomnia but than again if I don't eat right my insomnia could be worst!!!???
Take Care and have a nice day! :)
