Well, Ruth, you found a good place here and will get many great ideas and lots of support.
I often go to another bed when I cannot go back to sleep in the first bed. Many times I am able to go to sleep, I think just because it is a "change of scenery." Anything to break the moof of frustation.
I never had anxiety before I started to have sleep problems. When I could not sleep properly anymore, I became very anxious. Anxious in the morning because I had the whole day ahead of me and was too tired to face it. Anxious at night because I was afraid to face the same suffering again, and feeling hopeless.
Finally, I am one of those people who has had some very good periods and then went back to insomnia. The first period was after having been to the sleep clinic.
The second good period followed a sleep better class I took. It just reinforced everything I had learned at the sleep clinic, and since I knew it worked, I was able to follow it.
Then I moved to another state and am not working, and I got sloppy with my sleep schedule. Also, sometimes things happen in life that get me out of my comfort zone and I slip back. We have to be very vigilant to stick to good sleep habits.
Many of us here have read the book by John Wiedman "Desperately Seeking Snoozin." He covers all of these points. You might find it helpful. Wishing you a good restful night.
