I had a similar experience to liz and hope. by the time i tried hypnosis, my insomnia was already getting better (thanks to sleep restriction), but it did help, especially to relax and refresh me. I always fell asleep (or maybe I was hypnotized) listening to the tape. the psychotherapist i went to a few times made the tape for me, and it was personalized. (he had me give him a list of positive statements pertaining to my insomnia). He made the tape during our regular session, so the cost was the same as an hour of psychotherapy, which is around $100 in my area. my insurance covered half. it was well worth it. I was told to listen to the tape 1x per day, during the DAY, not to use it as a method to fall asleep. the tape is about 45 minutes long, and i always felt better after listening. I still have the tape, altho i haven't needed to listen to it in about a year.
