you're right that people are made differently and react differently to alcohol and medications, etc.
however, the way you THINK about things also has a huge effect on how you feel, and luckily, that is something you can change. because you fear insomnia so much, your anxiety is probably the biggest cause of the horrible way you feel the next day. if you can work on that aspect of your insomnia, you will be surprised how much better you will feel, even after a night of no sleep. obviously, going night after night with little or no sleep is another matter, but a bad night now and then can be handled once you learn how to minizmize your anxiety.
