Susan, although I m not a Dr. i would venture a guess that the xanax is the cause. It is a highly addicitve drug and has been known to cause panic attacks where done previously existed. I would suggest trying Remeron, a sedating anti-depressant rather then Xanax. Also remember if you want to get off xanax you must taper very slowly.
