Aren't conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes managed with medication. For me I find insomnia very difficult to manage. Medicaion only works to a small degree for me. Most of the time I am chronically exhausted. It is so difficult to imagine life like this with very little relief. Maybe when one's insomnia is not chronic it is easer to accept and easier to manage.

Unfortunately sleep restriction was not effective for me when I tried it last winter. I think my anxiety was so high that the few hours that I got were of very poor quality. Is there anyone out there that failed with sleep restriction and then tried it again with success?

One more thing - do you all think that taking a sleep aid after 2 bad nights is a bad idea? All sleep meds give me hangovers but somehow I function better with the hangover than my usual poor quality sleep. Also I tend to sleep even more poorly when I have something out of the ordinary the next day. I was thinking maybe I could take sleep meds on those days. Any opinions on this? I just feel like I need some kind of system

Thanks, Ellie
