I agree with David, too. When I'm not crying from exhaustion and despair I know that I need some activity to keep me "vital."
I walk about 30 minutes a day with my son, and I eat pretty well, which actually takes up quite a bit of time and energy, even though I don't cook anything elaborate. Just keeping food in the house wipes me out most of the time.
Firing a nanny isn't the solution for me. It's hard to predict when I'm going to be utterly overcome with fatigue and literally unable to pick my son up. While I was in withdrawl, I actually stumbled and fell with him--that's when we started having someone (in addition to me) be with him. Plus he needs someone to be happy and interact with him. We're burning through cash, but our son is happy and the house isn't a disaster.
Before the nightmarish pregnancy etc, I used to quilt, so I think I may start some hand sewing. It's hard to see straight, which may make things difficult, but it's a nice, quiet creative activity that won't sap my energy and is easy to pick up and put down.
I'm also in a mother's group, so I can get out occassionally.
It's hard to imagine benzo withdrawl being the lesser of any evil, but I suppose it's possible. All my sympathy for those in that place. I had hyperemesis (severe nausea & vomiting) in my pregnancy until 20 weeks and I think two weeks of Xanax withdrawl was worse. Well, maybe not. It's a close call.
