Rosebud, I have tremendous empathy for people that come off of Benzo's. Everyone's chemistry is different and there are people that reportedly have no problems while others have significant issues.
My first attempt, I c/t off of Dalmane (sleep med)and like the explorers of old, I found the gateway to HELL. The second time (2 yrs. later) I did a 6 month SLOW taper. All the difference in the world. Check out www.benzo.org It's a great web site for educating yourself on the effects of benzo w/d.I've been Benzo free now since July and my sleep is starting to come back. I now average about 4-5 hrs. a night and my goal is to sleep past 4am. I feel confident that in time I will get there.
You will too. Just keep a positive outlook; focus on what you have, not what you don't have (sleep) and get on with life. We all have crossess to bare and for right now consider insomnia to be yours. I visited a friend in the hospital for chemo treatments last night. She would swap places with all of us in a heartbeat. Don't despair for life is filled with changes.
Heidi2 is right. Don't allow the insomnia to turn you into a victim.
