A good friend of mine was recently suffering from stress and told me an effective way for him to deal with things was to write down a list of things he could control, and a list of things he couldn't.

At the end of the day/week (whatever is appropriate), he would look back over his list and tear up the list of things he had no control over. With the other list, knowing he did have some control, it took away the stress because he was able to formulate a plan. By tearing up the first list, he was able to accept the worry was as futile meaningless as the pieces of torn paper in his hand, and could therefore throw it away.

There are obviously futher issues at hand that are causing your anxiety and sleep disturbances, but my friend said this method was a huge help to him, so perhaps it might also be helpful to you.

Meanwhile, I hope you can find something to help you at least get a few hours sleep a night. It is incredible how much easier it is to face our problems when we don't feel like living zombies.

All the best
