Getting desperate

Posted by byrd on November 06, 2002 at 06:32:51:

I have a horrible time sleeping because of chronic pain from arthritis. Pain meds are not enough to control the pain. To complicate matters, I also have fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome and periodic limb movement disorder. A good night's sleep is hard to come by. My primary doctor and my neurologist (sleep doc) suggested I use Ambien. I did, and it works most of the time to help me fall asleep and go back to sleep when the pain wakes me up. But sometimes it just doesn't work at all. Nothing. Nada. So they switched me to Remeron. Same thing...most of the time it works (in fact it works all too well and I sleep for 12-14 hours on it!), but some nights it's as though I have taken nothing. Not even one bit drowsy.

I MUST get my sleep in control if I am going to have a prayer of getting the fibromyalgia pain to a manageable level.

Can anyone suggest what is going on with these meds or have any other ideas about what I might talk to my doctor about? I've had three hours sleep in the last 38 and I'm just about at the end of my rope.

Thanks
