I too had bad insomnia after each child was born but I had no help from anyone (my husband was on the road alot, my parents would never help, couldn't afford a nanny, and I was stubbornly independent). I was breastfeeding every 2 or 3 hours so got 0 sleep. Somehow I had the strength to do it because I had to. The baby was dependent on me for its survival.
My point is don't suffer needlessly like I did. Keep your nannys, but don't sit and stew about your insomnia, spend as much time as you can holding and playing with your 8 mth old. Enjoy this precious time. Do a little housework. Keep your mind and body active. Crying is a good way to release tension but try not to do it in bed. Try to think of the good things while you are in bed. Don't dwell on the bad things.
It sounds like you should stay away from addictive drugs as you have a hard time when you stop. I never had that problem. Maybe there is a anti-depressant that will work for you and not cause nausea?
Hope you find relief from your insomnia.
