Hi paf-

Congratulations on your big decision!

As you may know, I made the same decision last February.

Basically, I had taken Ambien for about two years when I decided to quit. I was so desperate and not even Ambien was working anymore! Well, upon reading Wiedman's book, I decided to stop taking Ambien cold turkey...and, well, the rest is history!

Basically, I combined getting off medications with changing my mental attitude to that of recovery and also used sleep restriction. Now, I have not taken a single sleeping pill since last February! Amazing, huh!? Not really, it just took a lot of determination to get off the stuff and the overwhelming support of folks on this forum, as well as my friends and family.

Well, now I sleep without medication, most nights between 7 and 8 hours.

BEFORE: Addiction to Ambien, getting 0-1 hours, even while on medication.

AFTER: Sleeping 7-8 hours per night on most nights, without medication.

You can do the same! Just keep in mind all of the reasons you want to quit taking the Ambien. For me, there were zillions...and so I tried to focus on the fact the going back to meds would be hopeless and getting off them would offer hope. Basically, I had no choice but to get off Ambien and I realized I had to get off them and that the solution to insomnia does not come from a pill.

The first week was rough, but I didn't give in and now things are so much better...

You are in my thoughts,

Paul
