general anesthesia for sleep?

Posted by Lizzy on January 27, 2003 at 08:55:14:

Hello all. I'm new here. I've been dealing with insomnia for about three years, in conjunction with receiving an MMR vaccine, getting chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia. The insomnia has gotten worse and worse. I go on and off meds to help with the insomnia. Recently was going off ativan (was at .25mg down from 4mg) which I've done numerous times no problem) but wasn't sleeping. Was freaking out from sleep deprivation so took 4mg again just to get a night's sleep. It didnt work. I'm not sleeping at all. I sometimes get very light sleep but without the deep sleep feel like i didnt sleep. Very dizzy. Meds aren't working. Feel I have to sleep. Dr. suggested hopsital. Anybody heard of general anesthesia as a treatment for insomniacs? It sounds great. But does it work?

Lizzy
