Hi Heidi....I'm really sorry for all that you're going through. Digging into the past can unearth a host of info....helpful in understanding oneself. Many events in childhood produced emotions and responses which always get buried in the subconscious.

As I'm sure you know, we develop defence mechanisms(i.e.perfectionism, all or nothing thinking, etc.etc.) to help us deal with whatever inadequacies we may perceive. Knowing why we are the way we are is useful in helping us go forward with more awareness and aids us in changing what we feel needs to be changed.

I think the key is not to dwell on the past but it is a part of who we are and shouldn't be ignored either. For some it can be a scary thing because changes in perception may have to be made but if it's for the better, why not?

You're right I think in assuming that your sleep mechanisms have been negatively impacted by various medications but something I read recently you may find comforting...."the body always strives to heal itself....let's assist it rather than impede its progress"...not that we intentionally do impede, but it's nice to know that healing in a probability not just a possibility.

I sincerely wish you success in achieving your goals and admire you for your courage in doing so....J.
