Dear Heidi, Thank you for taking the time to write me such a detailed and personal post. Having faced many of my own demons, I really feel for you and wish that you weren't having to go through such hardships. I guess we all have our own crosses to bear - I don't believe there is a person on this earth who has not had to face some sort of personal tragedy - but I guess the way we process these things (either conciously, or unconciously) will be unique for us all.
I hope that the EMDR is proving to be helpful with your depression and dealing with events from your past, which I'm sure will be an enormous step in itself in helping with your insomnia. I don't know if I came across as being disappointed that this wasn't the newest treatment for insomnia (I didn't mean to if I did), but I was curious that you had mentioned it had been changing your sleep patterns, even though (as you say) it is not predominately used for the treatment of insomnia (if at all). I guess this is why I was interested in your experience with it, and what had led you to trying it in the first place.
Perhaps it really is all related to the REM-like movements which are meant to help us process the stuff that goes on in our heads (which, if you find you are lacking in this, I hope will prove greatly beneficial). Perhaps to, those of us who suffer from what seems like TOO much REM might also benefit from something like this so we are doing all our processing in a "controlled" environment so we can actually get some sleep once we get to bed! (just a thought....).
Again - whatever your results may be, I hope they are positive. You deserve at least that!!
Best wishes to you
