I am not doing sleep restriction on meds. However, my latest sleep doctor recommended that I can start on meds and taper off to no meds. I have had other sleep docs say that I could take meds if I had an especially bad period. Even Houri (Say Goodnight to Insomnia) says that you can take meds if you have two bad nights in a row. I take meds occasionally therefore is I am having a bad period or need to be especially alert the next day. You have already made good progress and will continue to make good progress. You were tapering off the meds. Everyone has a setback and your ability to taper off will continue. To get through the day, I recommend exercise every few hours for maybe 20 minutes (areobic), followed by showers, until six hours before bed time. Also treat yourself to some hot baths. If you get drowsy, try splashing some cold water in your face. Visualize yourself near bedtime and if you feel anxiety, do some relaxation exercise until you feel calm. Even visualize yourself remaining calm if you do not sleep tonight. Sleep is on the way. You will be back on track.
