This happened to me when I got addicted to ativan (one of the benzos). I totally lost my ability to fall asleep. The amount I was taking was making me really sick, but if I didn't increase it consantly I simply stayed awake for days. Not even dozing or naps. It was one of the most frighteneing things I've ever experienced. I hadn't been taking a huge amount of the ativan, either.

I had been working with my doctor to find another medication to help me wean off the ativan, and had tried sevesral things without success. Then we hit on doxepin (a tricyclic antidepressant), and on that I slept I slept from the first night. It stopped working after a few months,s but that was enough to wean me off the ativan. (This was a year ago, and I still have wicked breakthrough withdrawal symptoms.)

I guess my question is: What meds hasve you been on?
