John, you came here for help and I'm afraid you may not be getting it, judging from the other responses to your post. Please recognize that many of the people who post here have had bad experiences with various kinds of medications. That does not mean you will too. Every person is different, as is every person's reaction to medication generally (and psychoactive medication specifically).
You'd do best to talk to the person who's writing your Zoloft prescription about your difficulty sleeping. It may be that it'd make sense to try some changes in your sleep hygiene and behavior before going to the meds. Or maybe not.
