I've taken trazodone for years. Until last September, I was also taking a sleeping pill (like Ambien), but found that drugs like Ambien were making my life intolerable. When I took the sleeping pill, the dosage on the trazodone was 75 mgs. When I gave up Ambien, I increased the dosage to 150 mgs. It works like a charm for me. Initially, it took some adjustment to get the right dosage of trazodone. I do recall feeling groggy and "thick", but that quickly went away. I take the trazodone no less than eight hours before I have to get up, otherwise I do experience sleepiness when I wake up.
Many medications don't immediately have the results you desire. It takes some time to get it right for you. Just make sure you talk to your doctor during the adjustment phase.
